Thesis Project 2014

Thesis Project 2014

A Daily Interior can be the representation of emptiness, a glimpse of a place through the crack of a tin can, or simply a domestic landscape, useful as a phenomenon of cultural memory, almost like a clinic to renew the soul and the vitium corpus.

Invisible Circles

Invisible Circles

Reclaiming family traditions becomes a painstaking task when Catholic symbolism is adopted in contemporary times. Paulo Álvarez moves through the "invisible circles" of his own genealogy, starting from elements that ground the shared past and converge in the particular present.

Contemporary Curatorship Award

Contemporary Curatorship Award

When Germán Páez Morales arrived at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in 1980, he found a fragmented panorama of the arts; on one hand the Salón Nacional de Artistas, and on the other the city's limited museum spaces, which were almost impossible to access.

Dwelling: An Approach to the Futility of Performance

Dwelling: An Approach to the Futility of Performance

She taught me this. Carnations are longer than the height of a vase. In Madrid, Cundinamarca, flowers are harvested. Those who work in the fields are women. There are many flower weavers; women are the ones who sell them. The performance will be her sitting in the center of the French garden. I will weave a thousand carnations into her hair and keep weaving until it reaches the ground and encircles the plaza. Once, twice, three times. There will be a thousand carnations. None of them will be dressed in any special way. The action will end when the weaving is finished. If the seated woman wants to leave before the action ends, she may do so. Duration: 2 days." An action not carried out; the following ones you will see, I did carry out: "First Attempt: To you, my friends, I say that you must not be afraid" (fragment), "Sugar" (fragment), "Razor" (complete), "Face Up" (complete), "Bicycle" (complete), "Chamber Concert" (complete), "Bath" (fragment), "Fifteen" (complete), "31 Pedagogical Exercises" (complete), "Pluto" (fragment), "The Things I Have Wanted to Do" (fragment), "Yellow. She Taught Me Corabastos" (complete), "Little Salty Mouth" (complete), "Combed" (complete), "Caprice Number Five" (fragments), "Nails" (complete), "Heads" (complete), "Martian Chronicle" (complete), "Coalition of Artist Workers (CTA)" (complete).

4th Faber-Castell National Drawing Contest 'Reconcili-Art'

We live in a country full of diversity; we sense it in the air with thousands of birds and butterflies that go beyond the spectrum of the rainbow; in the geography with monumental mountain ranges, snow-capped peaks, plateaus, valleys,  canyons, rivers, waterfalls, beaches and coves, in the fusion of musical rhythms with Indigenous, Black and White roots, and likewise in the flavors of our foods and the multitude of fruits that seduce us with their shapes and aromas.

Tins That Keep Time

Tins That Keep Time

Different journeys, various moments, the same idea: to capture time, freeze it, trap it on paper and share it.

From August 4 to 15 MAC presents the photography exhibition "Tins That Keep Time." Tins That Keep Time

1, 2, 3 Recording, 1, 2, 3 Tattooing

The tattoo lives beneath the skin; it expresses, it communicates, and like any image, it is surrounded by the experiences, stimuli, circumstances and desires of the person who creates it. In these in-between spaces, both the person who gets a tattoo and the person who designs it forge a strong narrative, anecdotal and commemorative element around their life and relationships. Just like music, ink becomes a vehicle that records, captures and sets down different states of our existence.

Phylum Artthrópoda

"Do not accept the chauvinistic claim that labels our era as the age of mammals. It is the age of arthropods. They surpass us in every respect—in number of species, in number of individuals, and in prospects for evolutionary continuity."
Stephen Jay Gould

Decade Thesis Project II

Decade Thesis Project II

In 2013 we held the first curatorial project with artists who took part in the <proyecto> TESIS program from 2004 to 2007, an interesting moment to review the trajectories of those who began their professional lives in the visual arts during those years and who have since consolidated their own visual language.

Abel Azcona - Unwanted

Abel Azcona - Unwanted

Being the son of a drug-addicted prostitute who could only see him as a mistake from the moment of his conception was a sentence that life handed down to Abel Azcona in a tyrannical and totalitarian way, condemning him, from gestation, to a placenta full of psychoactive substances and alcohol, in addition to the misery and nightmare that he represented for his mother—who not only forced him to live an unwanted life, but also abandoned him to the randomness of the road, which, in a search to find himself, or rather, to forget himself, led him to live through the nightmares of sexual abuse, physical and mental mistreatment, drug addiction, discrimination, and, at best, attempted suicide.

Circumpolar

Circumpolar

Converging between the nomadic and the static, Daniela Olave finds, in the vortex of urban chaos, these warm, timeless spaces; immersing herself in them like a silent watcher, Olave frequents them, treasuring them as the heart of Bogotá. These places, and those who inhabit them, share a relationship with one another: both lost track of time, and right at the moment just before fading away, they chose to remain just as they are, forever.
