The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá presents Proyecto TESIS 2020, showcasing the best graduation theses from Colombian universities through a major curatorial project in partnership with the Google Cultural Institute. For the first time taking on the challenge of a virtual space, with the Paris College of Art as a special guest, the works will be available on the website artsandculture.google.com
Research is not an exercise carried out only in academia; human beings are always searching for knowledge they can debate, accept, or confirm as they encounter it in their surroundings. Curiosity is the basis of the research process, since it generates new interactions that result in experiences with a specific purpose, generally applicable to identified needs.
This is how, in 2004, Proyecto TESIS was born at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá as a space to showcase the best graduation theses in the visual and plastic arts, with the aim of boosting the research-creation carried out by artists from Colombian universities.
The museum has become a visual and social laboratory, a setting for dialogue where different kinds of knowledge become a polyphonic piece, and a platform that propels graduates in their artistic careers beyond university life: their first appearance as new visual arts professionals before the public, with all the challenges and implications that involves, but with the support of a museum.
In keeping with the lessons learned from the global health emergency, the 2021 edition of Proyecto TESIS will take place in hybrid form, on our virtual platform and at the museum's physical site.

In 2022 we have much to celebrate: the 30th anniversary of the passing of our founder, Fr. Rafael García Herreros, the 90th birthday of Fr. Diego Jaramillo, president of the OMD, and the 30th anniversary of our university.
Human beings are curious by nature; their desire to investigate, to know the reasons behind things, has been fundamental in building what we call civilization.
THE THIRD SHORE puts on public view works by Venezuelan artist Juan Carlos Rodríguez, who places at the center of his creative work slowly distilled reflections on social issues that mark, both positively and negatively, the lives of the plains communities ('llaneros') with which the artist has become involved, as in invivencia.
This second season of TESIS corresponds to territory, the lockdown led us to understand that the planet needed a rest, a breather, and we saw how nature reacted: beaches cleared, the air grew cleaner, and animals returned to reclaim territories that humans had taken from them, both in cities and on the outskirts; many migratory birds sang again, and animals that had stayed hidden out of fear of humans came out.
For 2023 we will present a set of curatorial projects in which we have invited numerous artists who, over these 20 years, have taken part in Proyecto TESIS.
21st-century contemporary art, as a form of expression and communication, has sought to cross the barriers set by society, through provocation and the use of different techniques and aesthetic forms.
The 21st century has opened up a broad and complex vision for us, a space where the most diverse layers of knowledge, sociology, economics, politics, and culture overlap and intersect.
It is deeply satisfying to examine the variations, the evolution of artists' work after a given period of time; a fitting occasion for doing so has been the celebration of Proyecto TESIS's twentieth anniversary.
In physics, resonance describes the phenomenon of increased amplitude that occurs when the frequency of a periodically applied force is equal to, or close to, a natural frequency of the system on which it acts.
A group of young people arrived at the museum with their graduation projects; uncertainty, eagerness, and shyness showed on their faces, their eyes scanning every space while, in their minds, they imagined how their work would look in this corner, on this curve, in this empty space, climbing the stairs, or hanging from the great central skylight; they were intoxicated with illusions, dreams, and projections.
It was late when the teacher hurried to the classroom door; his lessons were not easy to absorb, and the authors and books he assigned as homework were written in a dialect already lost to time, one that many considered cursed.
Since the most remote times, human beings have been passionate about collecting — or, as we say today, assembling collections; guided by curiosity, we exercise the mind to establish the most varied, unusual, and complex connections, which have allowed us to resolve countless unknowns and face every kind of challenge.
