TRANSGRESSIONS

21st-century contemporary art, as a form of expression and communication, has sought to cross the barriers set by society, through provocation and the use of different techniques and aesthetic forms.

Artists have used their language as a means to question and challenge established values and norms, seeking to create works that promote social and political change.

In this field, artists have used art as a way to explore and express their own identity and personal experience, while also addressing polemic and controversial subjects such as gender, race, sexuality, inclusion, the environment, and politics.

While it is true that contemporary art is presented in institutional contexts, such as museums and academies, and is an object of study and analysis by art historians and critics, it can also circulate in non-institutional contexts, such as on the street or online; it can be created and consumed by people of all ages and socioeconomic levels.

Controversies and disagreements over its meaning and value are a constant. Nevertheless, despite this, contemporary art continues to be an important form of expression and communication in today's society.

In Colombia, contemporary art is a field in constant evolution that has been strongly influenced by various factors, including politics, history, and the country's internal conflict.

Proyecto TESIS, now in its twentieth year, has addressed the transgression of art's traditional boundaries, the shift in approaches and techniques used by artists, the provocation of reactions and debates around social and political issues, and the use of the body as a means of expression and communication.

Academia and the university have alsoplayed an important role in the development of contemporary art in Colombia, as they have provided a space for critical reflection and debate on the meaning and importance of contemporary artistic practices in society.

Transgressing is not the essence of art, but in the context of these two decades it has become fundamental.
