Attunement and Theory
It was late when the teacher hurried to the classroom door; his lessons were not easy to absorb, and the authors and books he assigned as homework were written in a dialect already lost to time, one that many considered cursed.
This ill-fated tongue produced in his students an unhealthy unease and discontent, and opened up excessive ambitions in them.
They had set out on the path of enthusiasm, of the tranquil possession of truth, of knowledge of the Logos, of the synthesis of intelligence, of the authenticity of life.
Their orme, that is, the impulse joining blood and will, the deep desire to reach one's goal, permeated their actions.
They learned that areté is perfected through hardship, with a calm smile in the face of every setback, casting aside worry over anything that does not depend on our will or that lies beyond us.
With great wisdom they understood that they should not seek things as they wished them to be, but rather wish for them as they found them.
Wherever they happened to play a role, there they had to fulfill it. Sometimes it would fall to them to play slaves in the Comedy — let them enter into it with intelligence. If it falls to them to play kings, let them do the same without believing in false appearances.
It is not in our hands to change the characters in the cast, at the risk of creating an imbalance in this ecumenical drama.
In whatever seat we are given at the banquet of life, let us take it with respect and drink from what is in front of us, converse openly, and share the dishes that are served. Father García-Herreros tells us in his story El dialecto maldito [The Cursed Dialect].
This poiesis, this poetry, this creation, the cause that turns whatever we consider non-being into being, has become, for this group, a constant search for beauty and the sublime.
Naturally, this will result in self-discovery, the development of one's full potential, a sense of purpose, meaning in life, intensity of action, enjoyment, and harmony with oneself and with others — in a word, the longed-for Eudaimonia.
