Since 2004, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá has invited Colombian universities and academies to nominate their students' best graduation projects to take part in the Proyecto TESIS; this curatorial project is the platform for the new generations of artists who, over these seventeen years, have shaped the current landscape of contemporary artistic practice, and it has represented our country at international biennials, artist residencies, and cultural exchanges with the MAC's partner institutions.
The complexity of the moment we live in is organized into seven thematic axes developed from the content of the theses presented.
Territories: displacements, urban and rural places that become memory and identity, in relation to landscape, lack of opportunity, and the struggle for survival.
Vibrations: Ancestral and popular impulses, material and electronic sounds that form a symphonic symbiosis.
Memories: The set of connections that give value to a memory, a trace, an imprint. People, places, experiences, and encounters are the gears of memory.
Body: The complexity and multidimensionality of a living organism at the height of its capacities becomes a manifesto that opens questions about gender, sexuality, absences, feminisms, and society.
Resistance: disobedience, nonconformity, and indignation are outlets for the growing social tension of the 21st century. Change is urgent, necessary, and unavoidable. Languages: As in a new Babel, human languages have multiplied and grown more complex; new forms of communication are proposed from educational, heritage, cultural, ecological, and inclusive perspectives.
Environment: the creation of spaces determines behaviors, uses, and forms of appropriation that expand our possibilities; they are places to inhabit and to be.
