September has been designated International Deaf Persons Month, for which INSOR will hold the "Deaf Art and Culture Festival," to take place from September 15 to 26, 2014, jointly between the Instituto Caro y Cuervo, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá, and the Instituto Nacional para Sordos.

The festival is grounded in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Law 1618 of 2013, and the International Day of Deaf Persons, celebrated in Colombia on September 26.

The purpose of the "Deaf Art and Culture Festival" is to raise visibility for the important customs and cultural practices of the deaf community, as well as to highlight and gain broader awareness of their daily life and/or expressions based on the aesthetic potential of Sign Language (deaf theater, signed storytelling, etc.). The festival, also sponsored by the Ministerio de Cultura, is a commitment to the consolidation and empowerment of Deaf Culture in the country, as a positive push for the constitutional and human right to the free development of deaf personhood.

The exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá includes paintings and wood carvings by artists Nataly Céspedes, Abelardo Parra, and Nico Andrey; the show will be open to the public from September 25 to 30.

Check the schedule and take part in this great celebration.
