“In her work La Vida en Casa, the Antioquian artist Juliana Uribe reveals the experiences of women who feel invisible in their own homes. Even though they are the ones who carry out the tasks in the domestic space, they seem to have no face; they seem to be forgotten among the objects they use every day. In her approach, Juliana juxtaposes objects, context, and symbolism to reinforce the language of an artistic work that emphasizes being just one more object among objects, a reality that is part of the history of many women.” Juliana Uribe.
The MAC seeks to create new spaces for music with diverse sounds. Following ROADWAILER's performance in February, we are getting ready to hear DIRTY HARRY and Plan D, who will combine with a mapping projection at the closing of the “Artesanía Digital” exhibition, open to the public at the Sala de Proyectos Bicentenario from April 9 to 12. There, VJs Juan Francisco Bautista, Oscar Pardo, and Aristóbulo Romero create a space for reflecting on image manipulation and the problem of perception and reception in the viewer.
Forbidden to Forget is an international exhibition bringing together the research of seven artists from Mexico, Chile, and Colombia, aiming to address common themes among Latin American peoples: armed conflict, drug trafficking, the exploitation of natural resources by multinational corporations, political imbalance, and social inequality, among others. These become generators of injustice rooted in political, military, social, and economic interests, which have resulted in a wave of violence that, over several centuries and especially throughout the twentieth century, has become a constant, contaminating agent of terror for the citizenry.
Teresa Currea has titled this exhibition Integuments, a word that comes from Latin and means protection. Countless living beings use this organic system to protect themselves and gather information about their surroundings; through her finely crafted drawings, she invites us to explore this wonderful, fantastical world in order to understand, in graphic form, how the integument works.
This exhibition by Chilean artist Claudia del Fierro, curated by Santiago Rueda, transports us to Neltume, a small town in the commune of Panguipulli, where, in the late 1960s, dozens of left-wing militants settled to work at the Panguipulli Timber Complex, on land that the government had expropriated and transferred to the workers so they could build a large collective enterprise meant to become the most important and productive of its kind in southern Chile.
Omar Castañeda has worked with food since he was a Fine Arts student at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, and he has continued this focus throughout his practice in London, the city where he now resides. He has a genuine love of cooking – in fact, he even considered becoming a chef – but he also sees the enormous aesthetic and conceptual potential of food as a metaphor for life, the economy, society, and cultural thought. In a sense, this exhibition, “Panela: The New Gold of Colombia,” offers us a global view of this paradigm.
It is an exercise in the language of the visual arts through experimental video.
Working VOICES is a collaborative research project that aims to explore the qualities of the urban environment and the different dynamics woven together in the Barrio Minuto de Dios. From there, the project raises three basic questions regarding how we experience our freedom; the responsibilities and positions of social and personal ecologies; and how we respond to the constant change of social rituals.
The artists brought together in this exhibition are, before being tattoo artists, draftsmen; they sketch, outline, shade, and color tirelessly. Their images, despite moving from paper to skin, connect us with a boundless graphic universe, coming from diverse origins, places, and intentions.
The Bogotá-based artist Maite Ibarreche will take part in the Sala de Proyectos Bicentenario (SPB2) with the project titled “H_JAS DE P_RRA”.
The history of art and new technologies has shown us that the images we perceive have no meaning if they are not contextualized. In other words, the images we live with every day are always showing us something, inviting us, indoctrinating us, entertaining us, or, in the worst case, repelling us.
The stones of gratitude are the expression of an entire community toward the generous benefactors involved in building the social project “El Minuto de Dios”; starting with the first Banquete del Millón held in 1961, Father Rafael García Herreros wanted to engrave into stone memory the names of all the people and companies that, year after year, contributed to the construction of each of the sectors that make up this neighborhood today.
In this first decade, <Proyecto>Tesis has managed to connect academia with the museum and promote emerging artists from more than 30 universities across the country, joined from Venezuela by UNEARTES and the Universidad los Andes de Mérida; over this journey, 500 of the nearly 800 undergraduate thesis projects in visual and plastic arts, fashion design, installations, and other contemporary expressions received during the open calls have been exhibited, and these, along with the 10 exhibition catalogs, now enrich the MAC's documentation center.
