The lens of photographer François Dolmetsch documents the hidden signs within the city’s urban palimpsest.
Dolmetsch delves into the tangled web of the city like a forensic investigator in search of clues, traces, enclaves... moving from the macro to the micro, revealing each layer of the city’s living skin, and unflinchingly capturing wounds that have slowly healed, the faded scabs that overlap to cover the symbolic pulse of human endeavor.
The multiplicity of readings offered by each of these photographs is not limited solely to its specific context, but extends to all those generated through juxtaposition — the various relationships between the visible and the veiled in the areas where an object or color left its mark; the symbolic labyrinths that lead to encounters and missed encounters, like pieces of a puzzle.
The Museo de las Artes of the Universidad de Guadalajara, in collaboration with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá, presents the photography exhibition Tropical Palimpsests; the show will be open from February 26 to April 3, 2016.
