"I see that the same thing has happened to me as happens to manuscripts rolled up and forgotten for a long time: one must unroll the memory and, now and then, shake out everything stored within it."

"I see that the same thing has happened to me as happens to manuscripts rolled up and forgotten for a long time: one must unroll the memory and, now and then, shake out everything stored within it."
(Seneca)
If we begin by saying that every memory is a bringing of the past into the present, it is because the past has a construction of its own. Intimate spaces are as sacred as they are profane; we keep them locked away, and we alone can access them, turning them into something intimate. "The private reveals several problems, among them its separation from the public, with the private understood as a closing-in upon oneself; the cultural formation of self-restraint and the process of individualization, which tends to generate spaces of intimacy as a prelude to the existence of the private." (Borja and Rodríguez: 2011)
Alter ego by Adriana Marmorek takes us through a detailed review of privacy and the female body, the simplicity of the intimate, the small and large stories of life kept inside handbags, with which many women and men, at some point, identify. The objects kept, which are part of a life, are reflected in those small spaces that are, at the same time, so vast—an entire world to explore.
Nine pieces, intervened with mirrors, lights, flowers, objects and a video, will trigger in the visiting public a series of feelings and private moments that each person will decipher for themselves. Alter ego is a show that invites visitors to meet their "other self" reflected in the artist's work.
The exhibition will be open to the public from March 28 to April 26, 2015.
