Labour is an exhibition by the artist Liliana Vélez, in which she presents her labour process and the difficulties she faced at the time. The intention behind this video and photography exhibition is to show the denaturalisation and industrialisation that the medical system has brought about in the way women give birth.
In this way, the personal experience the artist lived through, facing both a natural process and a healthcare system that has turned births into cold, procedural acts, forms the substrate and reference points for the construction of her work, which can be perceived as a mediating instrument between the laws of nature and those of medicine, becoming a bridge where these two forces engage in dialogue in an integrated way, with the aim of revealing an experience as vital as childbirth.
The exhibition opens on November 20 at 6 pm and will be open to the public until January 23, 2016.
