"You cannot go back because life is already pushing you on like an endless howl"
José Agustín Goytisolo
Evocations of Silence is an exercise in pictorial research in which the artist Leonardo Pilonieta takes on four thematic axes: brotherhood, religion, politics, and the underworld. These are reflected in his life and his artistic output. These axes are the result of his understanding of a rather chance-driven context, and of confronting countless obstacles, which he tries to work through by means of drawing, photography, and painting.
The results of these processes of understanding reality become purely creative, and can be described as attacks on a world permeated by a series of parameters and behaviourist symbols that cause him unease, but which in turn become his source of creativity.
The exhibition of these four paintings clearly evokes a process of materialisation and artistic technique, through which Pilonieta, by means of matter, expresses the concerns and interests that give meaning to his life.
Likewise, his ability to modify materials and play with them gives rise to an artistic exploration rooted in his spirituality and creative thought, expressed through different forms, which he articulates with concepts such as body, flesh, and sexuality – key notions for reading his work.
This exhibition is an invitation to a personal encounter with painting and drawing, to forge connections with the artist's personal experiences, as it becomes a window into his intimacy, one that opens to the public when he evokes his past, seeking its presence in his work as a form of catharsis.
In this way, these plastic expressions could be perceived as a response to the closing of multiple processes to which the artist has been exposed.
The exhibition opens on November 11 at 6 pm and will be open to the public until January 23, 2016.
