EVERYTHING AND NOTHING

José Cosme (Valencia, 1968) undertakes for the show Everything and Nothing (MACBO, March 2018) the construction of a sensitive alphabet that allows him to revisit some fundamental questions for the interpretation of reality. This gesture, conceived as a dialogue of knowledge and experiences, is made up of 08 installation-based proposals, in which each of the works challenges the viewer and calls on them to unfold questions from the agonizing and the contingent: what is nature? What is God? What is man? What is transcendence?

Everything and Nothing

José Cosme (Valencia, 1968) undertakes for the show Everything and Nothing (MACBO, March 2018) the construction of a sensitive alphabet that allows him to revisit some fundamental questions for the interpretation of reality. This gesture, conceived as a dialogue of knowledge and experiences, is made up of 08 installation-based proposals, in which each of the works challenges the viewer and calls on them to unfold questions from the agonizing and the contingent: what is nature? What is God? What is man? What is transcendence?

Through this exercise, José Cosme crafts a critical vision of contemporaneity and places at the center of his reflection the concerns over the meaning of life, the significance and evolution of the human being, and its links to the universe. In doing so, he constructs a worldview that problematizes the nature of being as a territory for  defining existence.

In this way, he articulates a conception of the universe from a properly anthropological perspective, which turns art into an itinerary for interpreting being in the world. It is a gaze whose vocabulary confronts the simple and the complex; identity and difference; the pure and the contaminated; order and chaos, the immanent and the transcendent; everything and nothing.
