Despite the omnipresence of the drug-trafficking phenomenon in Colombian reality, in the international media, in narrative and visual fiction, and the spread of every kind of stereotype that criminalizes us and justifies crime, no comprehensive exhibition had ever been produced in Colombia — and perhaps in almost no country in the world — that would allow, through works of art, an understanding of the dimensions of a global problem. And not only that, but also to understand the response of artists to a subject so diverse that it encompasses, in several South American countries, the rural reality, the cultivation and production of psychoactive substances, the problem of trafficking and criminality and criminalization, money laundering and the involvement of major global capital in this gigantic business, international politics and imperial interference, and lastly and principally the serious public health problem suffered by a large part of the global population due to the ignorance and marginalization that accompany illegality and substance abuse. Starting from the book titled Una línea de polvo, arte y drogas en Colombia (A Line of Dust: Art and Drugs in Colombia), published in 2008, this traveling exhibition has been staged throughout the present decade at biennials, festivals, and independent, public, and private venues in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Uruguay.

This is the first time the show has been exhibited in Colombia, bringing together the participation of the artists featured both in the book and the artists who have progressively joined the exhibition across these six countries over the past five years. It thus presents both an anthology and, at the same time, a cartography of the different facets and representations of the drug-trafficking issue, through national and international artists who have addressed the subject.
