Miss Wynwood is an anti-heroine who uses brazenness, kitsch, humor, saccharine frivolity, and exaggerated banality to put a magnifying glass on the ways of doing politics, human rights, and civic mobilization.
Miss Wynwood is an anti-heroine who uses brazenness, kitsch, humor, saccharine frivolity, and exaggerated banality to put a magnifying glass on the ways of doing politics, human rights, and civic mobilization.
With her character the artist Nina Dotti (Venezuela, 1968) proposes, through her symbolic participation in the electoral race for the presidency of the United States,a set of performative actions that aim to highlight various issues of collective interest.
In the exhibition we can see the journey of Miss Wynwood from “Mayor” of Wynwood (Miami's cultural-artistic district) to her current “presidential campaign,” ranging from the formation of a political party, the publication of a manifesto, and the activation of public space to build an interaction between the electoral campaign apparatus and artistic practices. All of this through a series of works that go beyond the political to question and transform, transcending the codes of traditional politics.
The show, which brings together a photographic series, a video, two installations, political posters, POP material, and a publication edited by the artist herself that gathers the experience of her participatory performances under the figure of Miss Wynwood, will open on October 13 at 5:00 pm and will be open to the public until November 12, 2016.
