Uniminuto Image Festival (FIU) - Utopias

Finding in creative processes spaces that can enrich the construction of interdisciplinary works, built through dialogue and the exchange of knowledge, horizontally, with the aim of conceiving education as the enjoyment of knowledge. Driven by a threefold point of view: the aesthetic, centered on the question of how to materially translate a communicative or artistic desire; the historical, grounded in how to situate oneself within a web of artistic, cinematic, and praxeological research references; and the social, which asks how to find a coherent position in relation to the current state of artistic production and social relations.

The 2015 edition of FIU is proposed as a space for creation, research, and socialization, giving priority to the creative process. Rather than being only a place of exhibition, it opens up as a space for creation, through collaborative creation labs. The theme proposed for this edition is Utopias, focusing on the possibility of questioning the modern principle that equates progress with social emancipation, by analyzing works that set out to formulate a utopian future, a better world - which compels us to understand artistic practice as the vanguard preparing visions of a future world. This stands against a new understanding of the modern principle of social emancipation, which holds that artistic practice is the construction of possible models of action within the reality that already exists.

This edition brings together the collaboration of audiovisual filmmaker Asdrubal Medina, musician and sound engineer Andrés Vilá, visual artist Matilde Guerrero, the EPEC student collective (Participatory Encounters for Education and Culture), the Armemos Parche Collective, visual artist Marcela Diaz Paez, the TV Unit of Esmedios at Uniminuto's FCC, the School Communication area of Esmedios at Uniminuto's FCC, and the professors Juan Camilo Ruíz, Megric Pacheco, Diego Guayara, Miguel Ángel Zúñiga, and Enrico Mandirola.

The exhibition will be open to the public from May 12 to 28, 2015.
